Kitchen
Each pARTicipant at the festival is asked to bring a $30 food donation for the kitchen which provides sumtuous culinary creations for all festoval goers each day. The network of the Kitchen begins before the festival. Inspired in your kitchen, home of the deep nourishment. We’d like to reel in your support, before, during and after. Sign up to lead a meal, Help make signs and sauerkraut ahead of time, Make a massive batch of cookies, or help prepare the land on a work weekend. if you are interested in being more involved send us an email at kitchen@omreunionproject.org
We create the structure and skeleton of a great Kitchen Ship, preparing a daily rolling brunch and dinner-time feast with the help of dear volunteers, with snacks to tide us over. Check out the Kitchen and how it works. It’s a whispered fame that the food’s good eaten! Food from the garden of Eden. It’s whatever you bring to the table. Your charm and your wits, your good dishes and fine skills. Friendly Vibes and Clean and Clear Food Fit for our Festival!
Volunteering in the Kind Kitchen
Everyone volunteers in different areas during the festival, and you can choose to give your time to the kitchen. Shifts are:
7am to 11am good for the early risers,
9am to 2pm is the lunch shift,
2pm to 7pm the dinner shift,
5pm to 10pm for the cleanup shift.
There will be all kinds of jobs, like washing and cutting, dishes and creatin’ most scrumptious meals for us all to enjoy, the kitchen is a pretty fun place! You can also decide you’d like to take on leading a meal, that is to say leading a group of 9-15 volunteers or a group of your friends to create a meal for 300-800 people. This is quite exciting and if you are interested, give us a shout at kitchen@omreunionproject.org, and we can make it happen and support you on your way with our experienced Kitchen Magicians. There are also some great opportunities for snack making at the treat Boutique throughout the festival. Come hang out!

Donate food
DONATE FOOD and TIME TO THE KITCHEN
Bring your vegetarian food donations to the Kind Kitchen, where we will use your gifts to create the delicious community meals. Please bring suggested $30 donation of food, either entirely of one food item, or a variety. Think about what you would like to eat throughout the gathering: This year we are putting an emphasis on donations of fresh Fruits and Vegetables; fresh greens, peppers, zucchinis, broccoli, oranges, apples, pears, etc. Check out our checklist of desirables below in "what to bring". We certainly manage to receive lots of potatoes, oh my, so also please bring us some yams! And if you could bring some fruit with every donation that would be fantastic! please buy local food when possible. Thanks!
***Please note that every year we run out of bread, so we recommend that you bring your own if you can’t live a couple days without! That goes for anything you can't do without- no whiners allowed! ;)
Where to buy
BUY LOCAL AND ORGANIC! Support our local economies: SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES! Sustain ourselves with the agriculture that’s in our backyard, check out a farmer’s market, or maybe your backyard, a farm on your way up north. Check in with what’s growing now! We encourage NON-GMO, and Organic, Whole Ingredients, vegetables and fruit. Save on the Fossil Fuels of Far transports.
Farmer markets are very exciting places to find foods that grow actually near us and the people that grow them. Hope you can get out to one of them. Or check out a farm. mmm. yes. If you have a meal you’d like to see supported, organize all your friends to bring the component for a mass quantity.
I highly recommend PAT Korean Market, they have lots of bulk dry goods, Asian Grocery, great produce & very affordable 675 Bloor Street W Toronto, ON M6G 1L3

Questions and answers
What shouldn't I bring?
No NUTS, ANIMAL PRODUCTS, or TOFU. Why? While we can’t guarantee a total nut-free zone, we will work hard to provide a nut-free kitchen. Bring the nuts for yourself and other squirrels at your own camp. We have to be very careful with this. Secondly, as a vegan kitchen we do not serve animal products for two reasons, we aim to serve to the most unilateral grouping and we are keeping food safety in our strong sights, to keep hazardous foods to minimum. Dealing with Plant based food is much easier in our outdoor facilities. But Even tofu, if left out or in a trunk for 3 hours in the summer weather, can go very wrong! Think “Woods” and what will keep outdoors.
Will the kitchen provide dishes?
NO - if you don't bring your dishes you will eat out of your shoe! Seriously, what dishes do I need to bring? What do you need to enjoy your meal. A bowl (metal or plastic, or whatever special vessel you would like to eat a week’s worth of food - coconut shell?!). You will also use a spoon, or fork, and probably a knife. A mug to have a hot or cool drink. Remember your water bottle - it’s camping style you know! And Keep your dishes to yourself . Every year we seem to wind up with two huge bags of plates and bowls! It’s a lot to store.
Will there be scheduled meal times?
Yes, we could say the estimation of food delivery runs about 9am, that rolls into the brunch around 11-1pm, and a dinner serving between 6-9pm - there will also be snacks available at the Kitchen between meal-times providing that there are enough people to make them and supplies. If you’re hungry, it only takes a minute or so to slice a plate of oranges or melons!!!
Can I help out more than my volunteer shifts?
We LOVE passionate people in the kitchen. Find your Niche. There are many jobs, always something to be done in a kitchen cooking for so many people! YES! Please do! Do some dishes. Tidy up the snack table. Turn the compost. Use your good sense, or ask one of the Kitchen Magicians. You can sign up for extra shifts, but you can also just drop in for 5 minute or the entire duration of the festival. Check out the Job Board by the front of the kitchen to see what tasks need to be done
